Introduction.

The document was written for IT6750: Current Trends and Issues in IT , which required a report on a trend or issue affecting practice, as evidence of inquiry for understanding. This report was written by a project group that included Jara Raphaelson, Tiffany Espinosa, Carol Woelber, and myself. The document explains Knowledge Management (KM) and how KM systems are becoming useful tools in Instructional Design.

The document also reviews the major impacts of KM on instructional design. These impacts have led to definite benefits including improved collaboration among team members, efficiency and long-term productivity, and ease in the re-purposing of information.

The Trends Analysis project, as part of the requirement of IT: 6750, was designed to originally complete three compentencies, including the thirteenth: Utilize research methods to investigate a learning or performance problem, issue, or trend.

With revisions in the competencies, the Trends Analysis project fulfills the following competencies:

  • First competency: Adopt a reflective-practice stance to your work;
  • Eighth competency: Utilize research methods to investigate a learning, organizational, or performance problem.
